Legislatures and Courts, even in Louisiana, have recognized there is a difference when defendant are juveniles, the US Supreme Court has said that life sentences must only be used in the most extraordinary circumstances. I hope that all of the district attorneys moving to keep these people in jail are doing so with those considerations in mind. We must operate the criminal justice system in a manner consistent with our values as Americans.
This is a short article on a couple of forensic science issues in the “Making a Murderer” case. This is by no means an exclusive list of the issues, but issues that kind of which are not often addressed – bias in testing and invalidity of a forensic scientific test.
The Louisiana Legislature significantly changed the rules on criminal discovery last week by passing house bill 371. ‘Sea change’ is decent way to explain the dramatic shift in the rule of criminal procedure in our code. The defense now has new rights to ask for the following evidence: Statements of co-defendants and witnesses, that have
